Liz Hassett has the job of site manager firmly within her sights, having started out as an apprentice bricklayer with Taylor Wimpey as a school leaver. After completing her trade apprenticeship, she spent several years gaining wider experience in construction before deciding to return to Taylor Wimpey in 2014 as a site management apprentice. She is currently working at The Meadows development in Keynsham, and is making the very most of the training and opportunities on offer, having recently completed an NVQ level 4 through Taylor Wimpey in site supervision.
“I’m learning abroad range of things from construction to customer care and handovers,” Liz said. “I’m regularly dealing with contractors, like bricklayers, scaffolders and plumbers, and picking up things about those trades. I really enjoy handing over to customers after working so hard to get their homes just right for them with things like their interior options.”For the region as a whole, construction apprenticeships play an essential part in ensuring that the right skills are available to keep building much needed homes for local people in the years to come.
